About these numbers

Price is the peak public rate for 18 holes (usually a weekend morning, at the non-resident rate where a town has two), or for 9 holes at a nine-hole course. Some include a cart and some do not. 135 of the 211 courses open to the public have a price we could confirm; tap a price to see exactly what it covers and where it comes from. Many courses now price tee times by demand, so the number moves with the day and the hour.

Acreage shows only where a course or its owner publishes it (19 do). We left the rest blank rather than guess, so the acreage filter covers those courses.

Who can play. Park district, city and forest preserve courses are owned by the public. Daily-fee courses are privately owned and open to everyone. Semi-private clubs sell memberships and also take public tee times. Private clubs are for members and their guests.

Courses open, close, change names and change hands. If you see something out of date, tell us and we will fix it. Last checked October 2026.
